How do I clean and sterilise Philips Avent bottles and teats?

Published on 3 September 2024
Thoroughly clean and sterilise all of the parts of your Philips Avent bottles and teats that come into contact with milk before first use and after every subsequent use. You can clean the bottle parts and teats by hand or in a dishwasher, and they can be sterilised by boiling them in water for 5 minutes or using a Philips Avent steriliser. Follow the instructions below.

How to clean your Philips Avent bottles and teats

Handwashing
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and teat.
  2. Wash all of the parts in a clean bowl with a soft brush (only use a mild washing-up liquid).
  3. Remove any food residues and rinse thoroughly.
Using your dishwasher
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and teat.
  2. Place all of the parts on the top rack of your dishwasher (only use a mild washing-up liquid or tablet).
Note: Avoid flannels, (abrasive) sponges and brushes with bristles that may tear the silicone or could lead the ink to come off the bottle. We advise you to use the Philips Avent bottle and teat brush.

How to sterilise your Philips Avent bottles and teats

Always make sure that you thoroughly clean your bottles and teats before sterilising.

Sterilising by boiling
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and teat.
  2. Put the parts in a household pot and fill it with enough cold or lukewarm water to cover all parts. Do not put cold GLASS bottles in hot water to avoid damage.
  3. Bring the water to the boil.
  4. Boil for 5 minutes. Do not let the parts touch the sides or the bottom of the pot. This prevents deformation and damage.
  5. After sterilising, wait for the parts to cool down.

Sterilising in a Philips Avent steriliser
  1. Disassemble the bottle, screw ring, AirFree vent insert (if applicable) and teat.
  2. Follow your steriliser's user manual instructions to sterilise the parts.
  3. Make sure that the parts do not touch each other to prevent deformation and damage.
  4. Do not sterilise the teat too long, as this can weaken it.
  5. After sterilising, wait for the parts to cool down.
