Yes, the headphone can be left on the base unit whenever you are not using it.
Your rechargeable batteries will not be affected.
Note: every time you re-install the headphone on the base unit the “automatic 16 hours recharging process” is started. This is verified by the green 'CHARGING” light on the front of the base unit. This is normal.
