Do I have to clean the appliance before I start using it for the first time?

Yes, we advise you to do so. All parts except the motor unit and the blender jar can be cleaned in the dishwasher. You can also clean these parts and the blender jar in warm water with some washing-up liquid. The motor unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth and some washing-up liquid.
