Spring | Summer 2010 is an exciting time to be styling hair. Sometimes hair isn't a big story on the catwalks, but this season it's the main attraction.
We think it's because, in these economically challenging times, getting creative with your hair is a relatively inexpensive way of dramatically altering your look.
From futuristic geometry to grown-up beach babe hair, texture, ghetto fabulous crimping and updos of all shapes and sizes, there is a great opportunity to have fun and experiment with hair this season.
And as you'll see from our key looks, the possibilities are endless. Mix and match your hair to your mood as much as your outfit and most of all, style your hair with your imagination.

The international collections showcased a softer interpretation of the futuristic trend that proved so popular last season. Gone are the jagged edges, rainbow colours and extreme asymmetrics of AW09; in their place instead is a highly wearable interpretation that we're calling 'Future Perfect'.
Still razor-sharp with precision partings, this look gives sleek, shiny hair a new edge by creating a strong yet highly feminine look with a futuristic feel. The real key to this style is its simplicity, making it perfect for those who like a beautifully groomed finish but don't want their styling to take a millennium.
On the catwalks:
Akris, Givenchy (including hot new face, Kelsey van Mook), Louise Goldin, Marios Schwab, Viktor & Rolf and Donna Karan.
1. Start by making a perfect centre parting with a point comb from the front to the highest point of the head.
2. Add mousse and dry the hair using a blow-dryer and a paddle brush. Direct the airflow downwards from the top to remove all volume from the roots.
3. Start straightening underneath. Next straighten the front half, getting as close to the root as you can, directing the hair forwards and down.
4. Make a clean parting from the top of the head downwards on both sides to the back of the ears. Clip the back section up out of the way so you can tie the front sections in a ponytail at the nape of the neck.
Great styling demands a great performing hairdryer: according to professionals, this means a hairdryer that offers high power, multiple functions and finishing tools yet is lightweight and easy to work with. The SalonPro is this season's 'expert's secret weapon'.

Affordable yet high performing, the Philips SalonStraight Ceramic is truly this season's must-have straightener for stylish yet budget-conscious fashionistas. Simple and easy to use, the result is beautiful, shiny hair.
At the Spring | Summer 2010 shows everyone wanted to be the Balmain girl with her sexily dishevelled yet abundantly healthy hair. Sufficiently undone but still tousled to perfection, this was beach hair with a difference – grown up, full of poise and purpose.
Beach-style hair is always popular for summer but this season it grows up. The 'beach meets business trend' – sported so well at Balmain but seen everywhere from D&G to Prada and Pucci – is a clever update, bringing maturity to a traditionally girlish style. The result is shiny, sexy hair that works for the boardroom as well as the beach.
On the catwalks:
Akris, Givenchy (including hot new face, Kelsey van Mook), Louise Goldin, Marios Schwab, Viktor & Rolf and Donna Karan.
1. Start by adding lots of mousse to dry hair until it's slightly damp. This will give extra body.
2. To get the uneven, beachy texture, take a large section of hair and twist it.
3. Hold the twisted section in your palm and scrunch it while drying it with the hairdryer on a medium heat setting. Repeat on all the hair.
4. When the hair is completely dry, use your fingers and the cold setting on the hairdryer to break up the waves and add shine to the top layers.

For a really professional-looking updo, it's a necessity to straighten your hair first. Straightening adds extra shine and creates a polished finish. We created a chic yet playful effect by smoothing the top and sides but leaving the poker-straight ends free.
This juxtaposition of textures was one of the buzz words backstage for all us hairstylists at the shows. The key to two-tone perfect is to keep it asymmetrical. This prevents the style looking too contrived.
"My only advice is to have fun. Creating different looks is one of the things I love most about my job and I hope that you try it for yourself.
Experiment, play and discover the amazing styling possibilities of your hair."
